Who We Are

Papaya is a sister company of Saad Trading Inc, a grocery retail chain that’s served the Metro Detroit area for 20 years and counting.

Born and raised in Bint Jbeil, a village in the beautiful country of Lebanon, Khalil Saad arrived in the U.S. from Lebanon more than 25 years ago. He brought tradition, culture, and the love of produce, ethnic food, and an everlasting mission to bring a pinch of the homeland to a place of new opportunity.

Food is and has always been a part of the Saad family heritage. Everything we do is pillared on the commitment to bring quality, diverse, and affordable products to our valued customers. Our managers are attentive, our selection is variably large, our products fresh, our quality premium, and our departments uniquely serviced. We know what our customers’ needs are and strive each and every day to bring them to them at the same consistent standard and reasonable price.

The fundamental is this: we love what we do, we’ve done it for a while, and we value our customers greatly. Evidence of our family’s origin and sincere passion is everywhere – from running day-to-day operations, to guiding customers to the rare item on the shelf, to offering specialty foods from Lebanon, Palestine, Iraq, Egypt, and the majority of East Asia and Northern Africa.
